If your name is Debbie, your lucky number is seven and you live in Harrogate, then you could well have a windfall coming your way. New research from the winners at the internet bingo site reveals the north Yorkshire town of Harrogate as the luckiest place in the UK, followed closely by Falkirk and Berwick upon Tweed.
Issued today, the Mecca Bingo Luck Report is a combination of the socio-demographic data of the thousands of winners who play on Meccabingo.com every day and also a survey of the attitudes to luck of 1300 people. The statistics show that the North of the country is luckier than the South (the Scots are particularly lucky with four towns in the top ten), they'll never break a mirror or walk under a ladder and that Simon Cowell is the luckiest celebrity in the UK, with Jordan's ex - Alex Reid the unluckiest.
The name Debbie tops the list of lucky females with more than 92% having won a game and topping the list of lucky men is Steve (83%).
The unluckiest place in the UK, with the lowest ratio of winners to players, is Bath, followed by Hereford.
Contrary to the belief that Scots are thrifty, they came out tops for donating the most amount of monetary winnings to friends, family or charity. On a winning of GBP100k, Scots on average would give away GBP28,756, followed by the South East giving away GBP27,960. Just 1% of the UK would give it all away.
The report also found that, despite Coventry being the only Midlands town in the top ten, people in the area believe more superstitions than any others with breaking a mirror and throwing spilled salt as their most popular.
