Pocket Rockets Turning Tourneys into Shelter and Heating for Needy Families

New for-profit helping nonprofits prevent homelessness.

CASA GRANDE, AZ, December 10, 2010 /Gaming and Casinos PR News/ -- Times are tough all around the country. People are out of work and desperately seeking for work, while others are overworked with reduced pay. Landlords, mortgage holders, and utility companies are forced to send eviction notices and shut off utilities when consumers cannot make their payments on time. These consumers are not deadbeats; they are hard-working (when they can), responsible people. However, because of the current economic crisis, their pictures are now framed among the "new faces of poverty."

Pocket RocketsPocket Rockets Tournament Club is answering the call to needy families by sponsoring domino, poker, and other tournaments to help raise funds for nonprofits. One Arizona nonprofit in particular, Fast And Indispensable Temporary Help (F.A.I.T.H.) Ministries, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit and 509(a)2 public charity, provides rental/mortgage and utility assistance to residents in Pinal County. This organization proves that a lot can be accomplished on a shoestring budget. The organization currently receives limited funding from United Way of Pinal County and individual contributions; however, organization representatives state they are constantly receiving phone calls from residents who have gone without water for over seven months, have no heating to keep them warm, and are either homeless or received eviction notices. Tracee Collins, Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP) Coordinator, commented:

"There is so much need out there and we wish we could help everyone. My heart breaks for them because we've even had mothers with newborns whose water and electricity have been shut off, single parents - mothers and fathers - with four or five kids who are faced with being homeless, and people with medical conditions who sorely need their utilities."

Pocket Rockets Tournament Club will donate 30% of its tournament proceeds to Family In Need Emergency Resource (F.I.N.E.R.) Services, the sub-organization of F.A.I.T.H. Ministries, Inc. that provides rental/mortgage and utility assistance to the community. These fundraising tournaments are scheduled during the month of January and the first two weeks of February, 2011. Pocket Rockets seeks to work with other nonprofits and public charities with limited funding who are also serving needy families. Individuals who would like to volunteer to assist with the fundraising tournaments are welcomed to contact Pocket Rockets Tournament Club.
